Our Review of Ibiza Airport (IBZ)

Our Review of Ibiza Airport (IBZ)

Information compiled by David Enrich, aviation and airport guide expert since 1999.

At Plan Your Trips, we have analyzed hundreds of airports worldwide to better understand what modern travellers truly expect from an airport experience. This guide has been designed to provide fast, practical, and reliable information, helping passengers save time and move through Ibiza Airport more easily.

Based on passenger reviews across travel platforms and airport communities, Ibiza Airport is generally considered one of the best small leisure airports in Europe. Travellers consistently praise its convenient location close to Ibiza Town, compact terminal layout, cleanliness, modern facilities, and relatively short walking distances. Many users also highlight the quick access to taxis, efficient baggage claim process, and the wide range of shops and dining options available inside the terminal.

However, reviews also mention some recurring weaknesses, especially during the peak summer season. The airport can become heavily overcrowded between June and September, with longer queues at security, passport control, car rental desks, and taxi ranks. Seating availability can also become limited during the busiest departure periods.

Our Final Score: 8.4 / 10

Ibiza Airport offers an efficient, clean, and surprisingly modern experience for a seasonal Mediterranean island airport. Its excellent location, simple terminal design, and fast access to transport make it very convenient for travellers. The main drawback remains the strong seasonal pressure during summer months, when passenger volumes can occasionally exceed the terminal’s comfort capacity.

Mini-Guide of the Airport (2' Guide)

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) is the main international gateway to the Balearic island of Ibiza and one of Spain’s busiest seasonal airports. Located just 7 km southwest of Ibiza Town, the airport offers fast and easy access to the island’s beaches, nightlife areas, resorts, and ferry connections.

The airport operates from a single modern passenger terminal, making navigation very simple compared to larger European airports. Walking distances are generally short, and most facilities can be reached within only a few minutes. During summer, Ibiza Airport handles millions of leisure travellers arriving from across Europe, especially from the UK, Germany, Italy, France, and mainland Spain.

Good to know:
Ibiza Airport becomes extremely busy between June and September, especially during weekends and evening departures.

Terminal Layout

The terminal is divided into arrivals, check-in, security, and departures areas across several levels. Check-in desks are located in the main departures hall, while arrivals and baggage claim are situated on the ground floor. After security, passengers will find shops, restaurants, cafés, duty free stores, and boarding gates.

Because the airport is compact, most gates can be reached within 5 to 10 minutes on foot after security control.

Transport Options

Taxis are available directly outside arrivals and provide the fastest way to reach Ibiza Town, Playa d’en Bossa, Sant Antoni, and other resorts. Public buses also connect the airport with major tourist areas during the summer season.

Car rental is extremely popular in Ibiza, with many international and local providers operating directly inside the arrivals hall.

If you are travelling during peak summer season, booking taxis, transfers, or rental cars in advance is highly recommended.

Facilities & Services

Ibiza Airport offers free Wi-Fi, ATMs, family facilities, tourist information desks, lounges, restaurants, cafés, and shopping areas. The airport is modern, clean, and generally easy to use, even for first-time visitors.

Security procedures are usually efficient outside the busiest travel periods, although queues may become long during peak summer afternoons and evenings.

Overall Experience

Despite heavy summer crowds, Ibiza Airport is generally considered one of the most convenient Mediterranean island airports thanks to its compact layout, modern facilities, short walking distances, and quick access to the island’s main destinations.

How we calculate On Time Performance

On various pages of our website, you will encounter a metric widely utilized in aviation and other forms of transportation known as OTP (On Time Performance). We believe that providing this metric assists passengers in planning their trips and exploring alternatives before purchasing their flight tickets.

We calculate the On Time Performance for all flights and airlines, when we have enough data to do so. In certain instances, it may not be feasible to accurately compute the On-Time Performance for a specific flight or airline due to inadequate or non-representative data, which could result in misleading conclusions.

Our calculation of On Time Performance and delay information solely relies on arrival times. This approach is chosen over calculating departure delays, as we consider arrival punctuality to be of primary concern to passengers.

The On Time Performance displayed on our website is calculated as follows:

  • On Time: Flights that arrive within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time, or earlier. In the absence of data for a specific flight, we assume the flight arrives on time, to avoid penalizing airlines for data unavailability.
  • Moderate Delay: Flights that arrive with a delay of 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Significant Delay: Flights that arrive with a delay of 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Major Delay: Flights that arrive with a delay exceeding 60 minutes.
  • Average Delay: The average delay is calculated by considering flights that arrive early as having a delay of 0 minutes. Early arrivals do not contribute to reducing the average delay calculation
